The story of Henrico Federal Credit Union

Henrico Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1967 to serve the employees of Henrico County, Virginia. A credit union built on the core principle of relationships, we strive to provide the highest level of financial service to our members while demonstrating the traditional credit union philosophy of People Helping People.

The first branch was located at 21 and Main Streets in the basement of the county administration building. As asset size began to grow, so did the type of services offered. In the 1980's we reached milestones such as opening the Nine Mile branch, offering Visa® credit cards, and our asset size reaching $10 million.

Decades of growth

The 1990's brought about positive change and growth. ATMs were installed at the Nine Mile and Dixon Powers branches. The Woodman branch was opened and development on our first website began.

The period from 2000-2010 represented even more growth and new initiatives. In 2002 we expanded our reach as the first community chartered credit union in the Richmond region and we currently serve those who live, work, worship, or attend school in 20 cities and counties throughout the greater Richmond area. In the late 2000’s the West Broad & Laburnum branches, and our inaugural school branch, located at Deep Run high School, opened. The school branch program was met with excitement from school administrators and 3 additional school branches were opened within 9 years.

A new era in financial services

Recently, we have introduced additional services and products; many of which are digitally focused. Mobile Banking, Mobile Deposit, and Mobile Wallet allow you to have convenient options to meet your banking needs. In addition, eSignature, a program introduced in 2017, makes signing loan documents fast and convenient. We currently serve over 29,000 members, have over $248 million in assets, and were voted as one of the top 3 credit unions of 2015 in the Richmond area by Richmond Magazine.

Although we have seen growth in all areas of the credit union throughout the years, we still believe in a member-first mentality, remaining locally focused and working together to meet your financial needs. We invite you to learn more about joining our credit union and experiencing the benefits of becoming a Henrico FCU member.
